Voice for the Actor
Welcome~ Lovely 1st year Students!
In this class you will be learning the fundamentals
of healthy professional voice production and the
basic physical structure and capability of your vocal instrument,
creative vocal expression in the interpretation of text,
techniques for improving your skill at reading aloud,
as well as a deepening understanding of your use of language
and the unique language challenges in Jamaica.
It all begins with BREATH -- something you do as a human being quite naturally and without thought, but the actor must learn to do ALL with conscious awareness in order to develop the skills an actor needs. It is important that students approach every task in our practical work with discipline and mental clarity.
It is therefore extremely important that you maintain your individual health and well-being by eating healthy food and getting plenty of sleep in order to fuel the physical demands of your training.
Students should make every effort to be on time to all classes and rehearsals, dressed appropriately, with their journal , at least one working pen, and a BOTTLE OF WATER to EVERY CLASS.
The file below is the story-board for your IB exam!! Bon Chance!

It won't load as a link but you can copy and paste it-- Alfre Woodard performing a speech as a piece of living history-- one reason actors learn SPEECH :->
and below see Mark Ruffalo reading a speech called 'Civil Disobedience' written by Henry David Thoreau in 1849 in protest of the Mexican Wars. The thorn which lifts our foot changes, but when we are pierced we always lift our foot...

He begins as a bit of a bumbler-- people relax and then he begins to manipulate with volume, then with tempo, then with emotion-- pick it up about 7 min in :->
