Welcome to Movement for Actors!
Where we dedicate ourselves to cultivating our ability to
express profound emotions and even the deepest of stories
without saying a word. Our bodies are our home and our instrument, our canvas and our clay. I I will be talking to you much about Vsevolod Meyerhold,
often credited as the first Modern Theatre Director,
he created theatrical biomechanics, which will form the backbone of our training.
Research and practical workshops
aimed at understanding the fundamentals of other important 20th Century practitioners
will form another aspect of our research, and then
we will begin learning the rudiments of stage fighting
(soft-soled flexible training shoes are required to train in stage combat).
I expect all students to come to class in clean, appropriate training attire, studio shoes, a towel if needed. For your health and safety I expect all students to bring a bottle of water to EVERY CLASS. Failure to do so will be reflected in your daily mark.
Attitude is more important than skill here.

So first take a look at Meyerhold's actors led by Nikolai Kustov in 1922...
And next here is one of Kustov's students, taught after the work came out of hiding in the 1970s. My teacher, Gennadi Bogdanov performing at the ISTA festival in 1996.
And finally, the 3rd generation, my friend Tony de Maeyer, who trained with Bogdanov in Germany for nearly a decade and worked as an actor in several of his productions. I was present at this conference in Ghent where the first recording was made :-) and then you can see him applying his technique in several styles of acting in his acting reel.
