My final PhD project was an original adaptation of Hamlet that I staged with
live musicians among the Players (whose roles were significantly dilated)
and a feminine personification of death called FOSCA
-- from a Southern Italian commedia tradition--
and so it is that Hamlet falls in love with Death as the others perceive him mad.
